Growing Food
Most food items grow on wet soil, that is dirt which has been tilled with a hoe and is near water and has become wet. Dirt and soil need to be kept well away from cold nodes such as ice and snow or they will become useless for farming. Plants also need sufficient light to grow, usually daylight or some other bright light source. Most things can be grown underground if the conditions are right.
Seeds (seeds, potato eyes etc.) are then placed on the wet soil and will go through a number of growth stages before being ready for harvest. The number of growth stages depends on the plant being grown. Once fully grown, harvesting will yield the produce as well as seeds to be able to plant a new crop. Harvesting before the final growth stage will usually result in little or no harvest and no seeds being produced.
Caution - walking on tilled soil or plants can cause regression in the growth or turn tilled soil back to dirt.
Note - growing multiple crops of the same type will over time result in the growth slowing. Crop rotation is advised. To restore normal crop growth, apply 1 bonemeal to each soil node before planting the seeds. Another way to restore growth is to dig and replace the soil, however this is slower as the dirt will need to be tilled and become wet again.
Growing other things
- Papyrus: grows on dirt and dirt with grass.
- Cactus: grows on sand.
- Trees: grow on dirt, with the exception of the Firetree which only grows on dauthsand.
