Tools and Weapons
Tools and weapons can initially be a bit confusing, as often the question of "Which is the best?" gets asked. The short answer is that there is no "Best".
Tools and weapons have a number of different characteristics, including:
- how much of what they should be collecting gets destroyed
- how far they can reach
- how much damage they do
- how fast they wear
- speed of use
- whether or not collected items have a chance to drop to the ground
- how quickly another full swing can be achieved
- how much energy is needed per use (affecting hunger)
- how much Mineral XP can be obtained from mining ore
Most can also be "levelled up" from Level 1 to Level 7. Higher level items tend to last longer and have better drop rates, as well as destroying less drops from mining, harvesting or killing mobs. Most importantly, higher level tools generally give more Mineral XP than their lower level counterparts. To level up tools & weapons, repair them before they break.
A very good place to visit is the upper floor of the Stavkirke in the City of Snow (Ice City) at approx. (1070, y, -8800) where MustTest has provided detailed information on the different tool & weapon materials.
Generally speaking Gem tools & weapons have the best all-round performance, but they are not "Best" in every way possible:
- Amethyst sword
- Ruby pick
- Emerald shovel
- Sapphire Axe
For beginning players, Iron tools are essential as they will not destroy any drops, followed closely by Mese or Diamond tools. Mese Tools have "perfect pickup" meaning nothing will drop to the ground, even at full reach. Diamond Tools tend to be more destructive but give more Mineral XP than Mese Tools.
